My Life in the 1960’s – a talk by Elaine Greenwood
A good turnout, some fifty guests and members of the society, attended the October meeting. The speaker was Elaine Greenwood, a valued member of the Society and a volunteer in our History Room at the Elland Library.
Elaine told members about her life living in Elland in the 1960’s. A highlight of which was to have been crowned the Elland Carnival Queen in 1966. A twelve-month period in which she represented Elland, opening fetes and attending various functions.
One of her prizes was to visit Lesley Slater’s Hairdressers on a weekly basis for the duration of her term in office to have her hair styled. Another was to receive a Gannex Coat from Lord Kagan and attending a function at his home in Barkisland.
A few years later her sister was to follow in her footsteps and was crowned Elland Carnival Queen.
Elaine also reminisced about events in her childhood and of her visits to Elland Royd, where one of her friends lived. Riding their bikes around the grounds.
Keith Gill thanked Elaine on behalf of the members.
